I would sit Kelly for one week. Have him dress but not start.
I see no point in dressing him unless he's 100%, and if he's 100% he starts.
Chad Kelly is the clear leader of this team , and his presence on the sideline in uniform would be an inspiration even if he doesn’t play. Obviously he’s close to 100%, so if he’s dressed maybe he could come in in the 4th and pull a win out of the fire if needed.
I agree with that Rich !
The Als are going to be a real good test to open the season; Thorpe D has plenty of talent; and young QB has lots of receiver weapons. Kicking game and return game could be a good Argo advantage ?

I don't think it's obvious that he's close to 100%. I'm pretty sure he was being protected through camp, and hasn't done many of the drills. He's rehabbing a very serious injury. Until he gets hit down low, we won't know how recovered he really is. It would be extremely foolish to suit him up before he's truly 100%. Dressing him with no intention of playing him would also be foolish. I've been wrong before (as recently as yesterday IIRC) but I'm betting he's not on the game roster this week.

Why would RD say publicly he’s considering starting Kelly if he wasn’t at least close to 100%? Maybe the word “close” means different things to us.

All I heard was his comments in the post-game presser: "We'll see. He wants to play this week. We've got to make a decision there. Cleared for practice, and we've got to figure out what we want to do as far as contact. He's been cleared, and if we feel he can play and not put him in harm's way, we'll make that decision. I'm just glad he's cleared, and he's moving around better." I'm not hearing "he's close" in that; maybe it's just my natural skepticism.
1. Chad Kelly is in pads and throwing at Argos practice, but Nick Arbuckle and new backup QB Tucker Horn taking offensive team reps.
2. RB Deonta McMahon is taking 1st team reps.
3. LB and team captain Wynton McManis (leg) is practicing with 1st string defense.

I expect them to hold him back until the home opener if he’s not doing 12 on 12 in practice this week.

Re: Chad Kelly is the clear leader of this team. Wynton McManis and his toothpick would like a word with you.
I'm really intrigued by how the opening to this CFL season is going to play out. It truly feels like one of these "anybody can beat anybody" seasons we haven't seen in a really long time. Not sure if you guys saw all of TSN's season preview content (but knowing all you guys, we probably all did lol), but on that segment of players with pressure to perform, I have to Davis Alexander at the top (Henoc and Dave had him at #2 behind Tre Ford). You could probably extend that to Jason Maas and Danny Maciocia as well. Given the size of the bus they threw Cody Fajardo under, if Alexander doesn't perform it's going to look very poorly among them.
I've found under coach Dinwiddie that Toronto is a team that gets better as the game drags on. If it is close and low-scoring at halftime, I expect the Argos to find a way to pull out the win. The offense always seems to find a way to make the right adjustments to take advantage of weaknesses in their opposition. I also think it's actually beneficial that Kelly isn't starting this game because there Montreal seems to be the only team that really gets in his head during big games. Defensively, they just can't give up those big explosive running plays like they did in the preseason. Hopefully the communication will be better and those mistakes won't be prevalent in Week 1. Otherwise, that's a huge cause for concern.
I'm going to be at practice on Wednesday before traveling with my dad on Thursday to the game. I'm really excited to go because I've never seen a game in Montreal! I'll keep you guys posted on anything at practice tomorrow.
There was a revealing interview with John Murphy on the latest Xs and Argos podcast. Murphy seems to be saying that Kelly won't play for the first 3 games of the season.

Maybe some gamesmanship not wanting to tip his hand leading up to this game.
Personally I don’t expect Kelly to play, don’t rush him back.
