The current CBA only allocates 29% of all league revenues to salary cap. And revenues are based on previous years numbers. So you likely won’t see a sustantial cap increase until 2028, and at the 29% share, you are looking at likely 1.2M (29% of the 60% revenue increase) increase in 2028 to bring it around 7.5M. Still a great boost in the arm. Hopefully they can get the league minimum close to 100k for 2028. That would be a great selling point to players weighing their optionsRichK wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2026 1:49 pm With revenues increasing 60% we have to assume the salary cap will increase by 60% too, which would take it to around $10M. This could be a real game-changer for the league.
I heard Naylor say that once non-QBs start making around $500k in the CFL, there will be a lot more top- level Americans willing to play up here. Maybe even some aging big names who would attract tons of attention to the league.

Re: New TV/streaming deal
My only complaint is Saturday games are exclusively on DAZN. Sucks for casual viewing. Less likely to see the CFL on the TV if you go to a bar. Not happy that I will have to get a DAZN subscription.
Having pre-season games on YouTube is a great idea and will provide good exposure.
Good deal overall for the league.

The CBA runs through 2029 but the players can opt out a year from now. It will be interesting to see what they do. I'm guessing there will be a strong sentiment among players that 29% is too small a share, and they will opt out and trigger a renegotiation. But it's worth noting that the PA has openly praised the league for negotiating this deal, so maybe they will hold their fire.AngeloV wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2026 2:01 pmThe current CBA only allocates 29% of all league revenues to salary cap. There’s going to be upwards pressure on player salaries even before the new broadcast deal takes effect. Surely Kenny Lawler’s 3-year $1M extension was made with the new deal in mind.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2026 4:08 pmThe CBA runs through 2029 but the players can opt out a year from now. I don't see myself signing up for DAZN, but this is undoubtedly a big win for the League, as I can't see TSN or any other traditional media outlet paying this type of money by itself.
Also of an interesting note. According to Farhan, the media deal includes escalators if the League does expand, of which it looks like Quebec has some interested parties. So, more good news on two fronts I suppose (although I'm not holding my breath on expansion, seen that song and dance before).

Well that's an important point. If the deal increases with an expansion team, then maybe it will actually happen.R.J wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2026 8:39 am Also of an interesting note.
