Coach Faulds is just trying to hype his guy there, but he's right out to lunch if he thinks Elgersma is the only 6-5 Canadian / U Sports QB to come along (and does he not get that Arnaud Desjardins, who just beat his team & Elgersma in a Vanier is 6-5 as well ???) He might be right that the NFL would evaluate Elgersma better than CFL GOBs though, most of who continue to live in fear of Canadian QBs on their roster.
Dunk makes no mention of Jon Senecal, who won both the Vanier & Hec. He is IMO a superior CFL QB prospect over Elgersma.
I agree Faulds and Elgersma are trying to hype their profile, but this is the only way they will get a look. I feel Desjardins is just not as eager to pursue a professional career as Elgersma. If is doesn't work it he will fall back on is MBA. I don't think Desjardins is as talented as Elgersma either. Even Constanstin called Desjardins more of a "game manager" QB.
Desjardins is going to the combine, but he also says he's going back to Laval for a final year. As far as CFL quarterbacks are concerned, because of their escapablity, I would agree with you that Senecal and Tachinski are the best. I don't know if Senecal's size works against him. It wouldn't probably if he was an American. In terms of pure passing I would rate 1. Elgersma 2. Keagan Hall.OV Argo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:39 pmj-ski wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 1:12 pmI'm too surprised Dunk didn't mention Senecal. I think this is his 5th year. Wouldn't be at all surprised if both Senecal & Desjardins had written-off the chance of a real CFL shot; the writing is on the wall for sure if Maciocia does not draft or FA sign either one (or both) of them.
Elgersma can get his hopes up perhaps. Even an NFL mini camp look would be a good experience and you never know with a foot in the door down there. Which CFL team is going to have real interest in him - to the point where he would get to compete in a TC for a #3 job at least? - the answer is nobody, I believe.
And Desjardins has much better mobility than Elgersma who IMO fared poorly in the play-offs against good pass rush or the blitz (even Bishops got to him early and should have stuck with lots of blitz). IF he truly does have the much superior arm (strength, zip or spin on the ball, plus accuracy), that should shine thru in real football TC competition.
All the U Sports QBs mentioned are in 4th year, so they all could go back for a final year.j-ski wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:22 pmDesjardins is going to the combine, but he also says he's going back to Laval for a final year. Senecal is in his fourth year. He could go back to Montreal for one final year.
??? - I would say the fact he got on their list - even at #20 - would mean he has impressed some of them.
OV Argo I suspect you're going to be right about Canadian QB chances and I will be wrongOV Argo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:23 pm??? - I would say the fact he got on their list - even at #20 - would mean he has impressed some of them.
It's a number of others - like Senecal, Desjardins, Tachinksi - who could easily be on a top 20 list for a football league that values up and coming young QB (obviously the most important position) talent - like the NFL does.
