Does the league have a calendar new year? Maybe they'll be added when that happens.

I said it before and it doesn't help but I will say it again.

There really needs to be some system in place where NFL teams have to pay CFL teams when they sign players under contract. This fly by night rookery every year never ceases to annoy me.

Look at Qwan'tez Stiggers for example. The Argos saved his professional career by giving him a chance when no one outside The Fan Controlled Football League would and get nothing in return for it in the end.

The weird thing is that I had never heard of "future contracts" in the CFL until the past few months. This seems to be another new thing.

I'd love to see a soccer-style transfer system, but the CFL has no leverage on this so I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The NFL will never agree to pay for player from the CFL, even for a rookie. Perhaps another approach needs to be explored. Losing rookies like Polk and Holley is more than disappointing. The team scouts, recruits and coaches these players only for them to be gone after one year, The fans identify with these new stars and obviously would like them to stay with the team for more than one year
I'd suggest a rookie should be released for an NFL tryout only after playing in the league for two years. This in not denying a player an opportunity for more money from the NFL but just delaying it. It is reasonable to expect a commitment from a player in exchange for the chance at playing in the C.FL. It might require negotiations with the players group but perhaps 2nd year rookies could receive an increase over 1st year salary.
Will this result in some players declining to come to the CFL---a small number perhaps but then with the possible loss of the spring league, the vast majority will still want to come to the CFL.
Feel free to disagree.

What would you be willing to give the PA in exchange for this concession? I don't think a small salary bump in Year 2 would do it. (CBA doesn't open for another four years so I doubt this will happen anyway.)

Wow, the surprising moves just keep on coming:

TORONTO REACHES DEAL TO SEND RB ADEBOBOYE TO OTTAWA

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced they have traded Canadian RB Dan Adeboboye to Ottawa in exchange for a conditional 2026 fifth-round draft pick and the negotiation rights to American DL Andre Carter.

Carter (6'5"/270lbs) spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 after being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jags in May. The defensive lineman played one season at Indiana University in 2023 tallying 49 tackles, 11 for loss, and two sacks in 12 games played for the Hoosiers. Before playing at IU, the Detroit native played five seasons with Western Michigan (2018-2022) where he recorded 132 tackles, 28 for loss, 12.5 sacks, one interception, and five forced fumbles in 47 games.

"Dan contributed, both on the field and away from it, to two championships in his three seasons here and we want to thank him for his hard work, professionalism, and dedication as a player and person." said Argos Head Coach Ryan Dinwiddie.

This is totally baffling. This is not a salary dump like the other surprises. What could be the possible reason for what appears to be complete idiocy?

Well that hurts! Dan, and especially his family, were fan favourites. I'm going to miss his parents as much as I miss him.

Sometimes it sucks that this is a 'business'.

A bit surprised myself, Dan's YPC wasn't as strong as Carey or McMahon, however, I thought they'd hang onto a Canadian RB, plus he was invaluable on special teams.
