Feel bad for his family

C'mon now - the Argos brain-trust always knows best !
Feel sorry for Dan going to Ottawa, where he will likely get less playing time at RB than he did with the Argos; hope he sticks on their roster, even if just to be a ST demon.

It's a sad reality that once NATs get past the third year of their rookie contract, a lot of those who haven't established themselves as starters on O or D become replaceable by cheaper NATs on rookie contracts. It would have been great if DA developed into a starter at RB, but I don't think that was in the cards for him, and heading into his fourth year I can't see why he'd want to reup for $70k. This was likely a salary dump, essentially. The return looks very slim for a former second-rounder, but maybe the d-lineman will turn into something useful.

With Carey, Brown, McMahon and good looking rookie, Williams, there just doesn't seem to be a place for a Canadian RB. But for only a 5th rounder in 2026 does seem to be a bit of a give away. Carter comes highly recommended and size wise he seems a good fit for our game. If he does sign and ends up having a great rookie season we will probably see him leave for the NFL anyway, with our ridiculous rules. OK, I'll try not to be bitter but it does irk me that we loose our rookies after one year. Ben Grant give a very good outline of why the move makes some sense.

McMahon is a speedy little guy who can break some big gainers but more a one trick pony for offence, and he is not near the between the tackles RB talent that Adeboboye is; and unless McMahon was the regular kick returner, Dan does way more on STs as well.
If it comes down to just $$$s decisions, I'm guessing newly acquired RB Kevin Brown will cost way less than Carey (?), so Kadeem could let go for nothing or peanuts as well ?
Opportunity to draft a good RB prospect (several from U Sports ball up this coming draft, IMO), and then for the rookie CFL minimum wage that Canadians get treated to in the "radical" league; we'll see if they value Canadian RB talent though.

I'm with Paul on this one. Adeboboye is at a crossroads in his career being a fourth year player and the Argos had to make a hard decision to let him go for at this point seems little return. This is one effect of the salary cap on league parity where quality players will move to lesser teams to balance things out. Otherwise, just imagine what sort of juggernaut the Argos could build with no salary cap.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 4:18 pm It's a sad reality that once NATs get past the third year of their rookie contract, a lot of those who haven't established themselves as starters on O or D become replaceable by cheaper NATs on rookie contracts. So, let me guess - the RedBlacks - who do not run the ball much nor give much opportunity to Canadian RBs - are going to pay Adeboboye way more than league minimum now that he is past his entry level salary, and the Argos just could not afford to match that ?
Re: 2024-2025 Offseason Transactions Page
I get this.
Sure don't like it, but I get it.
Best of luck to young Mr Adeboboye and a special tip of the helmet to his family who've been a treat.
We'll cheer for your boy in all circumstances that aren't a down count of goal-to-go against the Double Blue.

Perhaps they need the cash to sign other potential free agents of higher priority?OV Argo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 8:45 pm So, let me guess - the RedBlacks - who do not run the ball much nor give much opportunity to Canadian RBs - are going to pay Adeboboye way more than league minimum now that he is past his entry level salary, and the Argos just could not afford to match that ?
Sucks to see a player like Adeboboye leave but if it means retaining an additional starter from last year then it is a pretty easy decision.
