If those numbers are in fact accurate, then Hervey overpaid (yet again). I have no doubt that the Argos offered both players very, very good offers. I don't blame them for letting them walk.
I agree, it simply appears the players left for financial reasons which is there right.
Not surprised that Ed Hervey has employed this strategy, in the long term solid drafting and recruiting are the key to sustained success IMO.

Farhan Lalji reported said the Elks were paying Ceresna and Smith in excess of $500,000 for the two of them. With all the other high profile players they have enticed to sign with the team, it raises the question of how they will stay within the cap. Or maybe the new ownership doesn't care.
If true an absolutely stupid amount of money to commit to two defensive linemen.

Ceresna took less money in Edmonton than what the Argos were offering him. This is according to Justin Dunk.

If that's the case, the D-Line must be following Demetrious Maxie to Edmonton. That's a kick in the teeth to quote Demolition. When you're losing your FAs for less money after winning a championship.
We don't know if Lalji or Dunk has the right information but if Ceresna did accept less money to go to the Esks, it raises some questions. Perhaps Ceresna just prefers to be in Edmonton and the money was of less importance. But having spent time in Edmonton, I find that hard to believe.

Family considerations may play a factor. I believe Ceresna's spouse is from Edmonton.

I am guessing ownership doesn't care. Good for them. The cap really needs to be increased. Teams should be forced to set their own budgets.

I've heard that as well. Also, Edmonton is a very good city to live in. Or at least it was when I lived there 30-plus years ago, and I doubt it has gotten appreciably worse, apart from traffic, since then. Summers there are great. And the cost of housing is substantially lower than Toronto's.
