Chad or Nick

Re: Chad or Nick
For me, the answer to this question lies with where the team is in respect to making the playoffs... especially with the crossover so much in play this year.
There is no question that Kelly is a dynamic player, who would bring a totally different energy and intensity to the offense. I just think back to the Eastern Final and the passes he threw right at the end of the 1st half, especially the TD pass to Coxie in the corner of the end zone that changed the game completely. Not many quarterbacks can make that type of throw.
So, if the Argos start to catch fire and make a real push, then I would be inclined to put Kelly in if he is absolutely healthy, for no other reason than his ability to make those phenomenal throws and also keep the defence guessing.
But.....if you look at his stats for the last 9 games and compare them to Nick's from the first 11 games of this year, the argument gets muddied.
Chad completed 71% of his passes for 2451 yards, 10 TD's vs. 8 INT's in 9 games. Nick has completed 72% of his passes for 3,476 yds, 20 TD's vs 10 INT's. Using this as a comparison, one can certainly argue for picking Nick to continue to start.
But, your #1 is your #1, and should never lose that solely because of having been injured. Look what happened to B.C. last year with the controversy that erupted after they signed Nathan Rourke and gave him the #1 job over Vernon Adams Jr. Arbuckle is a class guy, and would never be bitter about relinquishing the starting job, so that is not an issue.
I am just concerned about Kelly getting re-injured, especially if the Argos are a long shot to make the playoffs.
If I am pushed to make a choice... you go with Kelly, happy in the knowledge you have the best back-up in the league right there if needed.

For the record, Matthew Scianitti tweeted yesterday that Kelly took some first team reps in practice, while Arbuckle took the majority. That tells me that if Kelly is deemed ready to go after the bye following this week's game, he will be back starting. Big if mind you.

OK I'll bite. I can't help it. Why is Trevor Harris Ned Flanders?gilthethrill wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 10:05 am
Ya, Trevor ( Ned Flanders) Harris outplayed all the league QBs last weekend by far. CFL should distance themselves from PFF.

Adams is also a class guy, and I doubt he did anything to disrupt team chemistry when Rourke was handed the job. But reports have suggested the Lions were either divided or strongly in favour of Adams keeping the job. Who knows how taking the job away from Arbuckle at this point in the season would affect team chemistry here. I'm sure some fans will insist that everyone on the team knows it's Kelly's job, and Arbuckle is just the placeholder, but is it that straightforward inside the locker room? Maybe.RB957 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 1:30 pm Look what happened to B.C. last year with the controversy that erupted after they signed Nathan Rourke and gave him the #1 job over Vernon Adams Jr. Arbuckle is a class guy, and would never be bitter about relinquishing the starting job, so that is not an issue.

I think a difference between BC last year and Toronto this year is that when Rourke came back the BC team had many new players on it that were not there when Rourke played 2 years earlier. For the Argos particularly the offence its much the same, and Kelly has still been around the team throughout his injury.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 2:21 pmAdams is also a class guy, and I doubt he did anything to disrupt team chemistry when Rourke was handed the job. Make Clemons President!!!
Re: Chad or Nick
I don't think any player would have a problem changing QB's when their record is either 4-8 or 3-9, no matter how well the man that has been starting has played. Arbuckle has been great the last 5 games, but his history shows that can swing back the other way. He is what he is...a very good back up.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 2:21 pmAdams is also a class guy, and I doubt he did anything to disrupt team chemistry when Rourke was handed the job. The Lions situation was different. They were having a good year with VA, and truth be told, a lot of those players had never played with Rourke, so it was a head scratcher as to why the switch was made in their eyes.
Just remember what Arbuckle said after the Eastern Final...."Chad is our F'n leader". I don't think that has changed.
Re: Chad or Nick
This conversation is going to become more pronounced over the next few weeks, IMO.
Re: Chad or Nick
For sure. As AngeloV has pointed out though, the Argos' receivers have played with and had success with both QBs so I doubt this will cause a QB controversy that would hurt the team.
Re: Chad or Nick
A post of Chad Kelly's Instagram seems to suggest a return on Sept. 13 against the Elks.
