Re: Major Announcement from Commish Tomorrow.
This weekend’s game is the future of football. It is getting more evident (if not already) that the future of football includes NFL games across Canada. Moving the goal posts is one giant hurdle fixed. Anyone remember when in Winnipeg they tried moving the goal posts and it damaged the field? That won’t be a problem.
Re: Major Announcement from Commish Tomorrow.
You are dreaming thinking there will be NFL games across Canada. Where exactly? There is not a single stadium in our country that would meet NFL requirements. And why would the NFL come here when they have such a lucrative gig going already in Europe, Mexico, South America not to mention the NFL's stated desire to expand international games to Asia.ArgoGabe22 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 5:21 pm This weekend’s game is the future of football. There are greater odds of the CFL becoming a feeder league for the NFL than for the NFL itself playing games here. Or, as others have stated, the CFL expands to the U.S. to some secondary markets not already covered by the NFL.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the they played the US anthem before the game on Saturday.
Re: Major Announcement from Commish Tomorrow.
Were you asleep back then? The CFL almost did die post-1986. Montreal folded days before the '87 season; Calgary and Saskatchewan needed telethons to survive; Ottawa was rumoured to be on the brink of collapse, and later died twice. The league has taken temporary ownership of teams several times.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 1:39 pmSo, why didn't they die in the past 30 years with a 110 yard field and 20 yard end zones and goal-posts a couple of yards behind the goal-line ?
Appealing to "business" sense or principles is just swell and all - if you are a small c zealot, or if you believe CFL / Canadian football is just a simple business like any other - sort of like selling widgets or fruit at the local farmer's market. Also if you are a true believer in the CFL BOG crying poor schtick year after year after year now. MLSE just can't afford to carry or market the Argos; gotta save ca$h to pay 3 million dollars a season to a 4th line mediocre grinder on the Leafs.
People are free to believe in any fairy tales they like; pretty common in the internet / social media times now. The BOGoofs are counting on you !!!
American expansion money and a loan from the NFL kept the league afloat in the 1990s and early 2000s until TSN investment, league-wide spending controls, and the salary cap stabilized the league, which led to new or upgraded stadiums.
But even that era is dead. Pro sports is now about increasing revenues and franchise value. Good chance that WPG and SASK eventually go private (Bombers almost did). The CFL landscape you are pining for, when it actually was just a simple business, is gone forever and is never coming back.
Such a new league would still require its own rich owners, available stadiums, and a media deal that could pay guys enough to make it worth their while. What's your business plan to make that happen? And would the ever increasing number of Canadian kids who go down to American colleges or even high schools qualify as "American wannabees" that need not apply? Those players are antithetical to the Canadian ethos of the league you are proposing.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 27, 2025 3:10 pm Let them walk - love to see those clowns get lost.
Then, maybe, a new pro league of Canadian football could be formed up here. American wannabes need not apply. Enshrined key Canadian rules, and a majority of players on rosters are Canadians. Maybe Doman in BC could be convinced to join, if the new & improved CFL does not work out for him.
Re: Major Announcement from Commish Tomorrow.
I don't like it, but selling off those games is a money move. Being at the bottom of the league in revenue has consequences.
Correct. They already have the Canadian market locked down. The NFL is a greedy beast, and I have no doubt they are jealous of the inroads the NBA has made into Asia.RB957 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 01, 2025 5:48 pm You are dreaming thinking there will be NFL games across Canada.
