East Semi Final Thread Winterpeg vs. Montreal

Post by Scooter McCray »

I am an Argo fan. But before that I am a CFL fan. I love the game. Always have since I first watched it on TV, listened on CFRA in the 70s, and saw my first game live in Ottawa as a young kid.
I am watching the semis today. Montreal is up 17-0 in the first quarter.
I invite others to comment on game and on their CFL and Argo memories.
There was a disappointing exchange on another thread.
I grew up in a time where Canadians could have different opinions on politics, football, anything and still have a beer together, be friends, and be a family together. Sadly, their is less and less acceptance of others with different opinions and less tolerance not more in the era of PC.
Our league is on the verge of tremendous change to attract more interest within Canada itself. While I am willing to accept the changes and give it a chance, because I am tired of sitting in a half empty stadium in the biggest city in the country. I also remain vigilant of more Americanization without these changes moving the needle significantly. We hard-core fans need to stick together to protect influence the great game we love and grew up with.

Als owning Bombers in the first half. Sadly see empty seats (ones that were full all season). The semifinal games are always a tougher sell. Also, the teams are wearing Mobil Oil ads on the back of their jerseys, beneath the numbers. Tacky look!!

Montreal transit strike today.
Nothing to do with the semi finals being a tough sell.

That is good news, then, since Als new owners have done such a good job marketing the team. Stadium would be full if not for the strike, I assume.
Bombers have made a game of it - love the CFL!

Also, with the CFL play-off game on a Saturday, they are in conflict with the 2 Q semi play-off games, including one in Montreal at the Carabins home; and also, with both of those Q games on TV (Quebec TVA Sports), big football fans could stay home and flip between channels to watch both the U Sports & CFL play-off games - which is what i got to do.

I hope Mobil is paying big bucks for that. Why don't they just buy the playoff games titles...Mobil East Semi Final. There is enough advertising on jersey and field

I'm happy that the Western crossover team has been eliminated.

It's nice that a crossover has never made it to the Grey Cup. Keeps the East West tradition alive. Hearing rumors that league may move to one division. I feel keeping the crossover and two divisions with 5 teams each (once the 5th eastern team is added) will keep the weak teams out however and there is no need to go to one division.
