Re: The CFL Needs to do the Draft this Way Again
3 Down's John Hodge has posted an early mock draft. Kinda early - pre Combine, where a lot of prospects move up or down, but interesting.
Has the Argos taking O-lineman Darius Bell (E. Carolina) at #2; H-back Emeric Boutin (Laval) at #11, and receiver Nolan Ulm (E. Washington) at #16.
I hope they can get one of the top receiver prospects with their first few picks; an H-back would depend on how much new HC Miller likes to deploy that position (and if my guess not much is correct, then Hodge's pick there is out to lunch); an O-line would be so GOB predictable, but IMO they have much more pressing needs - so #2 overall could be used on the best DT or best receiver they see.

Re: The CFL Needs to do the Draft this Way Again
I don't disagree the Argos' needs include DT and receiver, but IMO an o-lineman or two would not be a bad decision. Not one of our projected backups is sure to be able to step in seamlessly in the event of injury, much less to develop into a starter. Dankwah has considerable potential, and maybe (hopefully) Vandal will return to form, but Bosse looked lost last season, and Coakes is in the who-knows category. (As would be any o-lineman we draft, of course.)
Re: The CFL Needs to do the Draft this Way Again
Additionally, Hodge makes a good case for drafting an o-lineman at #2; all of Nicastro, Hunter, and Shepley will be free agents after the 2026 season. Those are three of the biggest o-line salaries in the league. It's likely that they will lose at least one of them, so they need a solid depth piece for 2026 who could possibly start in 2027, especially after the release of Doxtater.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2026 6:06 pmI don't disagree the Argos' needs include DT and receiver, but IMO an o-lineman or two would not be a bad decision. IMO, the draft crop this season is deepest at O-line; AND, much thinner at receiver and especially DT. So, I would disagree with not just the what position, but also the draft order Hodge is suggesting.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2026 6:06 pmI don't disagree the Argos' needs include DT and receiver, but IMO an o-lineman or two would not be a bad decision. Receiver and DT 1st and/or 2nd, then maybe an O-Line 3rd, with more selection to look at still at #16; and back-up, little used H-backs can be found in the last round or as FAs, IMO, and it's a joke to burn an early pick on one when you be getting a good starter at a bunch of full-time positions (O or D).
As far as those 3 interior Argo high paid O-line fleeing by next season as prized FAs? - sure, maybe, but maybe not - hardly close to a done deal.
That being said, Hodge and some of his 3 Down buddies are well connected to CFL people, and are good at repeating CFL standard party line; so he might be right or close with some insider info.
Re: The CFL Needs to do the Draft this Way Again
With the understanding that far more knowledgeable individuals have made suggestions for the Argo draft choices, I'll add mine:
At #2 ---Henning (OT). Realize this would be controversial and a bit of a gamble but if the Argos are to draft an OL player at #2, then let's go with the one with the highest ceiling. Argos have no Canadian OT at the moment and Henning might need time to get up to pro speed but his outstanding athletic ability might give the team a long term Canadian at this position.
At#11---the best WR available ( Cenacle or Ulm?). The team needs a quality WR after losing Brissett. If either Mital or Ungerer get injured the team needs a potential Canadian starter to replace them.
At #16---Cromwell (DB). The team is thin at Canadian DBs. Cromwell knows the Canadian game well, having played at Guelph. He has size and speed and could also be an asset on special teams.

Re: The CFL Needs to do the Draft this Way Again
Argos sitting nice with 6 picks in the first four rounds (#s 2, 11, 16, 22, 30, 31).
Chance to do some real good with smart drafting, and can address a number of positions / needs. Hopefully, that is, and I just don't trust CFL draft thinkers to not make goofy or iffy picks and thus miss out on good players and addressing team needs.
Not the best draft class IMO (though i saw some comments that it is very strong); a number of the top prospects are likely NFL bound and after that, lots of solid prospects, but not as many stand-out college ball studs as some drafts.
Receiver is IMO a big need, but this draft class is limited there (IMO) - more like a bunch of fairly solid guys but don't see a Gittens or Brissett or Mital quality talent; but this might mean they could get 2 receivers with mid to late picks and focus elsewhere with the earlier picks. And real weak draft crop at DT IMO, right when the Argos have need - might have to use their top pick to get the top available DT (maybe A. Notice who's in the Scouting Bureau top 20). Some sharp diamonds in the rough type picks in the later rounds would be so nice to see.
D secondary is about the biggest team concern/need IMO, but doubt they look for Canadian help there; same deal with running back. Won't be at all surprised to see a couple of more linebackers and O-linemen drafted.

I originally had Ulm or Cenacle as # 11 but after the combine and pro days, I would change that to one of Demontagnac ( if available ) or Kettyle with perhaps even Latenddresse-Regimbald. The last is a gamble but he could also be a short yardage QB ---but he did perform better than Sinopoli and we know how successful he was. Management will be looking carefully at game film before making any decision.
Henning is still my choice at #2, unless he attracts too much NFL attention.

I'm gonna guess the first receiver of this board is Malick Meiga (Coastal Carolina), and mostly because of his testing #s (4.4 range forty and some other impressive #s) and size: 6-3, 206. He had limited production in US college ball (one catch a game sort of average), but also was formerly at a big program (Penn State); I would almost never favor a big testing "athlete" over a very productive college ball guy, but in this case I could see the CFL scouts liking his testing #s and US college ball resume.
I'd rather see the Argos go with another receiver, and maybe they won't prioritize pass catchers with the first couple of picks. DeMontagnac is from Mississauga I believe, and his testing #s were solid to go with good size and production in US college ball.
Sad that L-Regimbald won't get a real shot at QB in the CFL (as per GOB usual B$), but maybe he makes it at another position or gets a shot at short yardage QB (expecting another Sinopoli type transition into a multiple 1000 yard receiver is very wishful thinking IMO)
